Troon Town Twinning Association Newsletter April 2012

Dear Member,

Welcome to our 25th year of Town Twinning with Villeneuve sur Lot.

Your committee have arranged a number of events for the coming year, starting with a talk by Douglas Fraser (Fraser’s Garden Centre). Douglas will be giving a talk on his travels to Japan. The event will be held in the Residents Lounge at the South Beach Hotel, Troon on Friday 20th April commencing 7.30pm. There will be tea, coffee and biscuits after the talk.

As we did not have the audited accounts at the time of the AGM, immediately prior to the talk, we will present the audited accounts of the Twinning Association for approval

We have another guest speaker arranged for Friday 11th May.

Our speaker will be Patrick Landri of the Alliance Française de Glasgow. He will speak on the life and times of Henri 1V of France (Henri lll de Navarre). Henri 1V is seen as a friend and benefactor of the French people (la poule au pot – broiled chicken in a pot for all hard-working peasants). He is also seen as the indefatigable romantic lover (holding court briefly at Nérac ~1578 which Troon Twinning visited in 2010), the dashing military leader (battle of Ivry 1590) and the genial diplomat who managed to unite France as it stood on the brink of self-destruction during the religious wars of the 16th century but was assassinated by Ravaillac on 14 May 1610 .

Again we will be at the South Beach Hotel, Troon. Tonight we will be having a one course meal of ‘chicken in the pot’ (fish etc for vegetarians) and we will eat between 7.00 and 8.00pm and have the talk after eating. The cover charge for the meal will be £10, to include tea or coffee. Would you please let me know if it is your intention to attend as it would be beneficial to the South Beach for catering.

We have received an invitation from Troon Petanque Club to have a match with them on Friday 1st June at their peist at Fullarton Woods. We will be starting play at 7.00pm. Teams will be arranged randomly (so that you do not need a partner). Afterwards we will be having a bar meal (venue to be arranged).

Could I remind those who have not yet paid their membership, to contact our Membership Secretary, Ethel Carlisle.
